Ed Ling gets the ultimate win at the Universal Trench ECH (UNIVERSAL TRENCH)

Congratulations to Ed Ling - 2019 European UT Champion - Maribor

As Ed adds yet another European Title to his CV we also had great successes in the categories and the teams.

Here are some pictures to give a flavour of the GB success until a full report from Solvenia is done by Kath and Gordon (coming soon so keep watching).

Enjoy.

Kind regards

Nicola.

Update 11/6/19.

Report from Kath Bright - UT Director.

The 47th European Trench Championship was held 31st May to 1st June in Maribor Slovenia. We were able to send a full compliment of 15 GB Team members to fly our flag and send the message that we may be a small country but we have some of the best Clay Target Shooters in the World!
Practice day on the Thursday was wet but that didn’t put anyone off and almost all were out having a few practice rounds. We also set up an area inside the club building as our ‘camp’ so people could leave their kit in safety when shooting and have somewhere to relax in between rounds.

The opening ceremony was held in the early evening with a parade of National Teams, speeches and some local music accompanying a slide show of photos of the ground and previous competitions. Our two new Junior caps Ryan Askem and Joseph Tune led our team out and the whole team were immaculately turned out and in good spirits.

The first day of competition was Friday 31st May and the weather had dried up and also warmed up. The team started strongly with David Lloyd putting in a 25 straight in the first wave and Kev Borley showed he was a force to be reckoned with putting in 75 straight across the day. Mary Rowley and Lucy Hall started with 24 and 23 respectively setting out the markers for the rest of the ladies.

Day two was another 75 targets and David Lloyd took his cue from Kev’s efforts yesterday and put in 75 straight. Ed Ling shot 74 and Andy Greenwood 73 with the rest of the team shooting consistently well.

The final day was just 50 targets to allow time for shoot offs and prize giving and people started to watch the score board with intense interest.

Joseph Tune shot his first 25 straight with his mum watching so a few tears of pride were shed there! Ryan Askem also put in a straight to keep him in the running for an individual medal. Consistency was the key to this competition with all our shooters keeping the pressure under control, this resulted with all our teams in the medals and a number of individuals shooting off for medals.

Ed Ling didn’t need a shoot off to confirm him as the European champion on a fantastic 196. This left Kev Borley and Rod Gould to shoot off with two others for the Bronze medal. Kev emerged victorious with Rod claiming 4th place. Kev also took the Veterans European Championship title and helped the Veterans team to Silver behind Italy. Lucy Hall took 4th in Ladies and the Ladies Team took the Bronze. Ryan and Theo Ling shot off for 3rd in Juniors with Ryan claiming victory when it came down to a sudden death shoot off. The Juniors also took Bronze. David Lloyd also had a shoot off for a medal, finally claiming Bronze with the Senior Team also claiming Bronze. The Mens Team comprising of Ed Ling, Rod Gould and Andrew Greenwood took Silver only 4 targets behind Italy in Gold position.

This was my first UT European Championship and it was an honour to be a small part of the GBR Team as support crew along with our new Team Manager Gordon Pownall. We both learnt a lot and look forward to supporting this amazing group of shooters at the World Championship in Ychoux France in August.

Congratulations again to each and every member of the team, you all put so much dedication and commitment into being part of the GBR Team and every single one of you deserved your medal(s)!
